During the Scientific Council Session held three months ago the University Rector - Professor Derenik Dumanyan presented his vision and programs concerning the university development and structural reforms which were specifically designed to bring radical and vigorous changes.
“As I had promised then,” the Rector said, opening the Scientific Council session on September 28, 2011, “we will have assembled a more effective working structure and experienced faculty by the end of August. The organizational proceedings have already come to an end and we are to undertake practical activities taking into account the fact there are numerous workings to accomplish.”
The newly elected vice-rectors were introduced to the Council Members – Dr. Samvel Avetisyan, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs; Dr. Michael Narimanyan – Vice-Rector for Science; Dr. Mher Bisharyan – Vice-Rector for Postgraduate and Continuing Education; Dr. Yervand Sahakyan – Vice-Rector for International Affairs; Dr. Ashot Zalinyan – Vice-rector for Finance and Business; as well as Chief of Staff and Coordinator of Clinical Affairs - Dr. Gagik Sayadyan.
It was as well outlined the university academic departments act under the supervision of the university different faculties going as follows: 29 academic departments under the supervision of the Faculty of General Medicine (Dean – Dr. Nune Shahverdyan), 31 academic departments under the supervision of the Faculty of Postgraduate and Continuing Education (Dean – Dr. Armen Hambardzumyan), 13 academic departments are included in the faculty of Stomatology (Dean – Dr. Lazar Yesayan), 14 academic departments in the Faculty of Pharmacy (Dean – Dr. Bagrat Yenokyan), 14 academic departments in the Faculty of Public Health (Dean – Dr. Marine Hovhannisyan), 7 academic departments in the Faculty of Military Medicine (Dean – Dr. Samvel Galstyan). The University comprises the Faculty of International Students’ Affairs as well (Dean – Dr. Anna Sargsyan).
In accordance with the decree issued by the RA Government, the educational platform of the National Institute of Health has lately been adjoined to the medical university. In the result of these vigorous reforms profoundly powerful medical, academic and scientific potential was concentrated at the medical university. Currently, there are over 108 academic departments in the university structure comprising the educational programmes of Masters and Bachelors courses.
The election criteria of 80 members of the Scientific Council were then represented according to the current statute of the Scientific Council. The Secretary of the Scientific Council is Professor Tatevik Avagyan. The members of the Council are doctors and professors of medicine, as well as students whose candidature has been suggested by the University Student Parliament.
The Scientific Council will thoroughly discuss the issues concerning the university life, scientific, academic, financial and other spheres; will be enrolled in the workings related to the university faculty professional training, academic curricula development, projects management, etc.
