Established in 1957
The first foreign students of YSMU were of Armenian descent and came from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Cyprus, and Bulgaria. Subsequently, the University started providing education in Russian (since 1985) and English (since 2009) languages for overseas students from India, Iran, Arabic and other foreign states. Since 1957 YSMU has had 727 English-speaking and more than 2000 Armenian- and Russian-speaking graduates.
At present, YSMU has 1025 International students from Abkhazia, Belarus, Canada, Georgia, India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Maldives, Mauritius, Moldova, Russia, Sri Lanka Syria, Ukraine, and the USA.
Classes at YSMU for International students are currently available in Armenian, Russian and English languages at the following faculties:
- Faculty of General Medicine
- Faculty of Stomatology
- Faculty of Pharmacy
Faculty of General Medicine offers a six-year program. Faculty graduates are awarded MD degree and are qualified as “MD Physician”. Upon completion of five-year program graduates of Stomatology Faculty acquire a qualification of Doctor of Stomatology and the graduates of Pharmacy Faculty - Master of Pharmacy.
Education of International students is carried out in accordance with the national and international Higher Medical Education standards. Students learn theoretical as well as clinical disciplines during the course.
Great attention is paid to practical skills acquired during academic and practical training periods at educational training bases of the university located at YSMU clinics, as well as at clinics of municipal and republican significance.
Modern educational technical methods are widely used in the university.
International students are actively involved in research, educational, cultural and other activities. The Dean’s Office assists international students in organizing celebration of their national and religious holidays.
The scope of Dean’s Office activities includes educational-methodological, scientific, organizational activities. It supervises and coordinates the daily activity of departments and students.
