In 2005 a Faculty of Specialized Education was founded at Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi based on the Department of Clinics and Postgraduate Education.
In 2007 the Faculty was transformed into a Department of Continuing Education, based on which the Faculty of Postgraduate and Continuing Education was established in 2011.
Aimed at unification of the education process and rational utilization of training locations, the head of studies was conveyed from the National Institute of Health after academician S. Avdalbekyan to Yerevan State Medical University after Mkhitar Heratsi according to the RA Government Decree # 1193-H.
Currently 40 interns and 1294 residents study at the Faculty. In 2012, in total 2388 medical doctors and pharmacists and 1974 nurses and other health care providers passed qualification trainings there.
Education
In order to produce highly-qualified medical doctors, dentists and pharmacists the following forms of specialization are utilized in the Republic of Armenia: Internship and Residency.
Continuing medical education courses are organized at YSMU for medical doctors, dentists, pharmacists, pharmacologists and nurses.
