The Department of Scientific-Medical Organization coordinates the activities and the scientific events of YSMU faculties, chairs, scientific research units, expert commissions, Young Scientists' Council, Students Scientific Society. It implements the scientific-organization programs of scientific research, clinical, experimental, scientific personnel training. The Department of Scientific-Medical Organization aims to support the membership, collaboration, participation of University structural units and faculty in international, local, joint and other types of scientific events, scientific-research projects, conferences, symposiums. It collaborates with YSMU structural units (SRC, faculties, chairs, YSC, SSS, clinics), governmental organs, partner institutions and organizations.


COORDINATION OF SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

This service coordinates the scientific research activities of YSMU structural units and facilitates their links with governmental organs.

  • Elaboration and confirmation of scientific project-proposals
  • Collection and analysis of scientific reports
  • Compiling and coordination of state funded scientific project reports
  • Organization of activities of Expert Commissions
  • Composing and electronic publishing/publishing information on the scientific research activiites of the University
  • Technical support to compiling theses

SCIENTIFIC-MEDICAL INFORMATION SERVICE

The Scientific-Medical Information Service is a structural unit of SMOD which provides flow of scientific medical information to YSMU chairs and other units. It implements:

  • Internet search, processing and dissemination of

  • Scientific-medical news
  • Operation of the dynamic database of e-mails
  • Search and analysis of scientific-medical literature sources

TRAINING FOR SCIENTIFIC PERSONNEL

Post-graduate study is the kind of training of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff in the system of postdiploma study which is being implemented according to the respective specialties of the “List of scientific degrees awarded in RA” of HCC (High Certifying Commission) of RA.


PhD

PhD study is the kind of training of highly qualified scientific and scientific-pedagogical staff in the system of postdiploma study which is being implemented according to the respective specialties of the “List of scientific degrees awarded in RA” of HCC of RA. PhD is the student who has master’s degree or diploma of a qualified specialist and is passing PhD study aiming to develop his/her professional skills, preparing a thesis paper for taking a scientific degree of candidate of sciences (PhD) and, in the case of post diploma professional education of an researcher, obtaining corresponding qualification degree. Only the citizens of the Republic of Armenia who have master’s degree or diploma of a qualified specialist are eligible to apply for and take part in the admission exams of PhD study.

The study of foreign citizens is conducted in both internal and external paid courses. The duration of the internal and external courses do not exceed 3 and 4 years respectively. Foreign citizens, as well as non-citizens can apply only for the paid course based on intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements or contracts as well as on their own initiative. Health insurance in the Republic of Armenia is mandatory.

Admission to post graduate course is in September and October. A selection committee under the supervision of the Rector is formed headed by the Vice-rector on science to organize the admission process. Highly qualified scientists and scientist-pedagogues of the corresdonding specialties are involved in it. Applicants are supposed to pass examination on their profession only after having successfully passed exams on foreign language (English “TOEFL”, French and German “ON DAF”, “TCF”) and computer skills. The application for PhD course entrance with all necessary documents is addressed to the University Rector. Failed applicants are not allowed to re-examination. Their entrance is officially registered by the order of the Rector. During the study students pass qualification exams and submit annual report for certification based on the rules of HCC. Those who fail certification are subject to dismissal. Students confirm their thesis topic and scientific supervisor within 3 months upon entrance.


Doctorate

Doctoral students study in the internal course which does not exceed 3 years. Only citizens of the Republic of Armenia that have PhD degree and submit basic or applied research project of scientific, economic importance are eligible to apply. Foreign citizens, as well as non-citizens enter the doctorate course based on intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements or contracts as well as on their own initiative. Application with all necessary documents is addressed to the University Rector.
The corresponding department of the institution/organization submits a conclusion based on the discussion of all the documents. In case of positive result, the scientific council of the institution discusses the conclusion and makes decision on admission to doctoral study which is confirmed by the University Rector. During the doctorate course, students must implement their anticipated individual program, complete the thesis and hold its approbation. The scientific, scientific-technical councils certify them for one time annually, based on the reports of the doctoral students' programs. Those who fail certification are subject to dismissal. On reasonable grounds they are allowed to restore their course within 1 year by the order of the Rector.


Individual Applicants for PhD

Applicants for PhD are those PhD students who work on their PhD thesis individually and have master’s degree or diploma of a qualified specialist. The maximum time for passing qualification exams and defending their thesis is estimated 5 years. This course is both free and paid and is conducted based on the estimated order of the University. The documents for entrance to this course are addressed to the University Rector who orders their admission. The applicants confirm their thesis topic and scientific supervisor based on the estimated rules of HCC.


YOUNG SCIENTISTS' COUNCIL (YSC)

YSC aims to suppport and contribute to the scientific, educational and creative work of young scientists, PhD, interns, clinical residents of YSMU.

Objectives

  • Revealing talented young scientists and contribution to further development of their professional skills
  • Contribute to the scientific, educational and creative work of capable young scientists, PhD, doctors, interns, clinical residents
  • Integration of young scientists to international organizations
  • Efficient provision of information necessary for scientific research work of young scientists
  • Popularization of scientific and technical achievements, results of activities of young scientists within Armenia and abroad
  • Elaboration of new, more effective ways and methods of working with young scientists having creative skills, aiming to facilitate their integration in YSMU scientific research work, continuing his/her scientific direction and have their own contribution

STUDENTS SCIENTIFIC SOCIETY (SSS)

SSS provides the students with the opportunity of realizing scientific activities at YSMU chairs, SRC and scientific research institutions of the Ministry of Health of RA.

Basic types of scientific research activities are as follows:

  • Scientific essays of freshmen and sophomores. Internet search of literature sources, processing, publication of scientific articles on modern aspects of medicine, participation in scientific events
  • Individual scientific work of under-graduate students, formation of research groups, integration in the scientific research projects that are being conducted at the Universtity chairs, and SRC, publication of scientific articles, participation in scientific events.
