I am pleased to welcome you to Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU) named after Mkhitar Heratsi. Yerevan State Medical University is the oldest institution of higher medical education in Armenia having been founded at the beginning of 20th century. To continue its long history of training highly qualified physicians, the YSMU is constantly adapting itself to keep pace with the ever changing world of medicine and medical education. The quality of the YSMU education has been particularly strengthened throughout the past decade through the adoption of a number of major university-wide changes. One specific example of a major recent achievement at the YSMU was the adaptation of the medical curriculum to conform to the guidelines established in the Bologna Process; this critical step towards aligning the YSMU with other European universities I feel is of paramount importance in writing a new chapter in the history of the Yerevan State Medical University.
While these changes are undoubtedly contributing to a rapidly improving university environment in which academic standards are constantly rising, certain recent, large-scale changes such as the modernization of the university facilities and clinics are also providing an advanced platform for research. The Yerevan State Medical University’s reputation as a leader in scientific research and its history of producing world-renowned scientists will only continue to be enhanced as a result of improvements being implemented daily.
The Yerevan State Medical University is, moreover, committed to establishing stronger international relations around the globe, a fact evident in the rising number of international students studying here every year. Established contacts with universities world-wide have already been very successful as seen in the existence of a large number of exchange programs available both for students and university staff. At the YSMU, for example, a number of programs are open to accommodate students interested not only in under- and postgraduate degrees but also in shorter-term, study-abroad experiences.
I look forward to welcoming you the YSMU and hope that you will contribute to continuing the fine educational tradition we have established at our university.
Sincerely,
Prof. Gohar P. Kyalyan
Rector - Yerevan State Medical University
