The faculty of the course deal with hysto-pathological studies of surgical and biopsy specimen received from University Clinics, medical centers of Yerevan and the regions of Armenia. Besides the hystopathological examination method, the immunohistochemical one is also used for the diagnosis of haematopoietic and lymphoid systems’ cancer. The latter is as well applied for the detection of prostate precancerous pathology, prostate cancer diagnosed through the needle biopsy, as well as for the diagnosis of certain tumors of soft tissues. The study of needle biopsy of kidneys is also carried out at the department. The field of scientific researches includes histological diagnostics of gynecological diseases, urogenital system diseases, pediatric and dermal diseases.
Due to the assistance of German pathologists the centre of telepathology has been founded at the department allowing the discussion of complicated cases with highly experienced physicians throughout the world. Besides, the diagnostic results of other pathologists are examined at the department, and if necessary, lectures and seminars are organized. The department has rich and contemporary sources of information being widely used in the continuing education of physicians.
