Library

The YSMU library was founded in 1930 and encompasses an area over 1800 m2 in size. Through the completion of recent renovations and improvements, the library now contains three modern reading-halls with over 300 seats, internet access and six departments that ensure efficient library functioning.

At present, the library possesses 521,751 pieces of literature acquired through extensive donations and purchases. The literature is multilingual including but not limited to Armenian, Russian, English, French, German, and Arabic.

The literature is organized in a catalogue system in which works can be found through the use of card indices. The catalogues are arranged either alphabetically, by subject or, in the special case of distinguished physicians who have contributed a large body of literature, into a ‘personal catalogue’.

The library is dedicated to supplying both YSMU students and employees with easy access to medical literature. Educational literature for students is supplied based on the current curriculum and often available until the completion of a given subject. Books may be checked out by YSMU employees/students for up to one month. A book copy, reference editions, antique and rare books and periodicals cannot be taken out library and are only available for use in the reading-rooms.

The reading-rooms are open from 9:00-21:00 weekdays and on Saturday from 9:00-19:00

The YSMU library is currently taking part in the creation of an automation program for all the libraries of Armenia in which each book will be encoded with a reference number detailing its subject matter and location.

Finally and of important note, one can find a number of rare pieces of literature of great (historical) interest in the museum section of the YSMU library.
